Sean’s Origin Story
My professional writing career started over a decade ago when I got a job at a local news website some of you might remember, Patch.com. The job consisted of visiting local businesses, interviewing owners, and doing a little write-up for the website. It was a lot of fun and, to the despair of my bank account, I became hooked on getting paid for putting words in a cunning order.
Since then, I’ve wandered through a wide range of writing gigs, from editing roleplaying games and ghostwriting romance novels to reporting for my local newspaper.
Due to my breadth of experience, I often get used as a sort of “utility player" in many roles, writing about several different topics and using different writing styles. According to all the orthodox advice, spreading your experience out like that is the worst way to build a writing career. However, it is challenging, great for building writing skills, and a lot of fun.
Outside of writing, I teach fencing and historical European swordsmanship. My home is in northern Wisconsin, where I live with a cute dog named Boo.
